project memento – individual memory + material archives

research approach

Project Memento emerged from the search to understand how individual memory can be preserved and transformed through material archives. In a world where physical traces of the past are often lost, forgotten, or destroyed, this project seeks to explore new ways of embedding memory into tangible artistic expressions.

Through the integration of ashes, dust, and earth from personally significant places, Project Memento investigates the relationship between material remnants and the act of remembrance. This research-driven artistic practice examines how physical matter carries historical, emotional and symbolic weight, shaping the way we interact with memory and loss.

methodology + artistic practice

By combining material collection with contemporary artistic techniques, Project Memento:

  • Transforms personal and historical remnants into lasting artistic expressions.

  • Explores the intersection of material archives and Erinnerungskultur (memory culture).

  • Reconstructs individual narratives through the integration of physical traces into pigment and canvas.

Project Memento does not merely preserve memories,
it reinterprets them, offering a new perspective on how personal history can be materially archived and visually reimagined. This project is a dialogue between presence and absence, the ephemeral and the enduring, ultimately questioning how memory can be embodied through art.
